Currently, the net metering scheme is still applicable, making this an extremely suitable time for solar panels. You save directly on your energy bill by generating your own solar energy. Thanks to the net metering scheme, your generated electricity is offset against the electricity you draw from the grid. Have questions? Our advisors are ready for a completely non-binding consultation.
We always come by for a customized quote. This way, we can discuss your wishes and possibilities.
We have our own service department, ensuring you get help quickly.

This is the most obvious and advantageous option to finance solar panels. You don't need to take out a loan and therefore don't pay any interest. The return is comparable to an interest rate of more than 6% compared to an interest rate of about 0% if you were to leave the money in your savings account. And once you have recouped the investment, you will benefit from pure profit for at least another 15 years.
If you don't have enough money in your savings account or prefer not to use your savings, you can choose to apply for a loan. To stimulate home sustainability, various organizations offer loans aimed at sustainable investments. These loans often come with attractive terms and can provide tax benefits in some cases.
Mortgage providers often offer the option to finance energy-saving measures in the mortgage. If you want to make your home more sustainable, such as investing in solar panels, you can borrow up to 106% instead of 100% of the home's value. This way, you can benefit from mortgage interest deduction.
If you want to purchase solar panels for your business, there is a national subsidy available that you may qualify for, namely the Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production (SDE) subsidy. Additionally, many provinces and municipalities have their own subsidy scheme for sustainable energy. You can check if this applies to your municipality or province via the Energy Subsidy Guide. Currently, there is no national subsidy available for individuals. The reason is that purchasing solar panels is already a very profitable investment without subsidies.
You can also decide to rent or lease solar panels. In this case, you don't need to have a large budget available to generate your own electricity. Instead, you pay a monthly rental fee to use solar power. In most cases, these costs are lower than the yield of the solar panels. The solar panels are on your roof but remain the property of the supplier.
The vast majority of solar panels currently on the market have the same size: 1.65 meters in length and about 1 meter wide. The reason they are so identical is that most panels are composed in the same way: 6 bands of 10 solar cells that are all connected to each other in a zigzag.
Because solar panels are so standardized in terms of dimensions, manufacturers of all individual parts of a solar panel have also been able to standardize and scale up their manufacturing processes. It is thanks to this standardization that the price of solar panels has been able to drop so spectacularly.

A good inverter can make the difference between high and low yield during shaded moments. Whether an inverter can handle shade depends on the software used. All current SMA inverters are equipped with the 'ShadeFix' functionality, which ensures that shaded (parts of) panels are 'by-passed'. Some other inverter brands have such a system, but many do not. So pay close attention when choosing an inverter.
Another possibility to counteract the negative effects of shade is the use of optimizers. An optimizer is a small box placed behind a panel (on the roof) and to which the panel is directly connected. This allows a panel in the shade to still contribute to the system's yield.
The question now is: is it worth placing an optimizer for shading, or is using ShadeFix sufficient? The answer to that question varies by situation. Ultimately, it comes down to this: how much does placing an optimizer cost, and how much additional yield will it give me?

Roofs facing south receive the most sunlight throughout the day. But when the net metering scheme changes, not only the total yield becomes important, but also the distribution of that yield throughout the day. And that could actually provide advantages for an east-west system.
On flat roofs, we still mostly choose to orient the panels southward. But sometimes an east-west configuration allows for more panels on a flat roof than a south configuration. Our advisors are happy to help you think about what is ultimately the best choice for your roof.
