Resetting the Powerline Adapters

30/06/2023 | Last updated on 17 maart 2025

Powerline Adapters enable transmission of data via the electricity cables in the building. There are always at least two Powerline Adapters in the building: One is connected to the solar inverter via a network cable, and the other one is connected to the router via a network cable. The data from the inverter are sent to the electricity cables via one Powerline Adapter. The other Powerline Adapter receives this data from the electricity cables and passes it on to the router. Powerline Adapters are a smart way to create a cabled communication without having to pull new network cables through a house.

Sometimes Powerline Adapters can lose the connection between them. Usually a simple 'reset' will be enough to get the connection back in order.

To do a reset, remove the Powerline Adapter from the wall socket. All the lights on the device will go off. Also remove the network cable from the device. After waiting a few seconds, insert the network cable back into the device, making sure you hear a click. Now plug the Powerline Adapter back into the wall socket. Perform this procedure with both Powerline Adapters.

Attention: Powerline Adapters work best when they are plugged directly into a wall socket. Do not plug them into a multisocket box with an extension cord. Also: make sure not to mix Powerline Adapters from different brands inside your house: that can cause the communication to fail. Always only use one brand of Powerline Adapters for all communication.

After a reset, all the lights on the Powerline Adapter must come back on (some of them may be flickering intermittently; this is normal). If the lights all come back on, the internet communication with the server will usually start working again after a while.
